AllSquare vs Tradify

A UK job-management suite — pick AllSquare if you only need invoicing (not scheduling, timesheets or job cards).

Should a UK tradesperson use AllSquare or Tradify?

The choice comes down to whether you need job management. For a one- or two-person business that only needs to quote and invoice, AllSquare is far cheaper and quicker to learn. For a business that assigns jobs to staff, tracks timesheets against jobs and uses job cards, Tradify is the stronger choice.

Tradify is a mature UK/NZ job management tool for trades. Invoices + estimates + timesheets + job scheduling in one. If you're running a team and need the full ops stack, Tradify is a solid pick. For a sole trader who just needs clean invoices, AllSquare is about five times cheaper and faster to pick up.

Pick AllSquare if

You're a one-person outfit or two-person team whose only paperwork pain is getting invoices out quickly and looking professional.

Pick Tradify if

You run a crew, assign jobs to tradespeople across the week, track time against each job, and want everything in one dashboard.

Is Tradify good for tradespeople?

Yes — it's built for trades. Tradify combines quotes, invoices, timesheets, job cards and scheduling in one tool, with team collaboration so jobs can be shared across a crew. For a plumbing, electrical or building firm with a few staff, that joined-up view of every job is the main reason to use it.

The question for a sole trader is whether you'll use the job-management half. Tradify costs around £30–£50 a month at the time of writing. If you don't schedule anyone but yourself and don't need timesheets or job cards, AllSquare covers the quoting and invoicing part for £5.99 a month or £49.99 a year.

So the difference is scope, not quality. Tradify is the operations system for a trades firm; AllSquare is a fast way for one person to get estimates and invoices out. Some businesses start on an invoicing app and move to a tool like Tradify when they take on staff.

AllSquare or Tradify? Three UK trade scenarios

Best fit: AllSquare

A sole-trader plasterer working mainly on domestic jobs

One person, a few jobs a week and no staff to schedule. The paperwork is an estimate per job and an invoice at the end; AllSquare's saved price list (per square metre, per room, per bag of finish) and one-tap estimate-to-invoice handle that for a fraction of Tradify's monthly cost.

Best fit: Tradify

A two-van plumbing firm with an office manager booking the jobs

The office manager needs to see and assign the week's jobs, and the engineers need job cards and timesheets. That's Tradify's core, and AllSquare has no scheduling, timesheets or team features to offer here.

Best fit: AllSquare

A tiler who works as a CIS subcontractor for a main contractor

Invoices go to one or two contractors a month and there's no team to schedule. The contractor deducts CIS from the labour on the invoice, not the materials — 20% if you're registered, 30% if not, or nothing with gross payment status — and you can record your CIS details in the invoice notes.

Tradify vs AllSquare: what a sole trader pays in a year

Example: A sole trader who uses only quoting and invoicing, over twelve months.

Monthly price£5.99 (Pro)£30–£50 depending on plan
12 months, paying monthly£71.88£360–£600
Annual option£49.99 a yearCheck Tradify's site

Using only the quoting and invoicing, a sole trader would pay roughly £310–£550 a year less on AllSquare's annual plan. If you use Tradify's scheduling, timesheets or job cards, you're comparing different products and Tradify's price buys features AllSquare doesn't have.

Switching from Tradify to AllSquare

This switch makes sense if you've stopped using Tradify's job management and only use it for quotes and invoices. There's no import, so:

  1. 1Confirm you can live without scheduling, job cards, timesheets and team features — AllSquare has none of them. If anyone else in the business relies on them, stay with Tradify.
  2. 2Download your customers, quotes and invoices from Tradify before cancelling. Check Tradify's help pages for what can be exported.
  3. 3Build your AllSquare price list from the items and labour rates you quote most, and add your logo and VAT setting.
  4. 4Re-add your active customers as saved clients. For main contractors you invoice under CIS, keep your CIS details ready to add in the invoice notes.
  5. 5Pick a cut-over date. Finish open jobs and unpaid invoices in Tradify; raise all new estimates and invoices in AllSquare.
  6. 6If you still need a simple record of hours, use AllSquare's free browser timesheet generator.

Tradify alternative: common questions

Is there a cheaper alternative to Tradify for sole traders?

Yes, if you only need quotes and invoices. AllSquare is free for 2 invoices and 2 estimates a month, or £5.99 a month (£49.99 a year) for unlimited, against Tradify's £30–£50 a month at the time of writing. You'd give up Tradify's scheduling, timesheets, job cards and team features.

Does AllSquare have job cards and timesheets like Tradify?

No. AllSquare has no job cards, scheduling or in-app timesheets. There's a free browser timesheet generator for a simple record of hours, but if your team works from job cards and timesheets, Tradify is the better tool.

Can I use AllSquare to invoice a main contractor under CIS?

Yes. You can raise the invoice in AllSquare and add your CIS details in the invoice notes. The contractor deducts CIS from the labour element only, not materials: 20% if you're registered, 30% if you're not, or 0% with gross payment status. AllSquare doesn't file CIS returns.

Can I import my Tradify data into AllSquare?

No — AllSquare has no import from Tradify. Download your customers and invoice history from Tradify before you cancel, then add your active clients and price list in AllSquare.

Does AllSquare handle UK VAT?

Yes. AllSquare supports UK VAT on invoices and estimates, so VAT-registered traders can show VAT on their branded PDFs. You only have to register for VAT once your taxable turnover goes over £90,000 (the threshold since 1 April 2024); below that you can invoice without VAT. AllSquare doesn't submit VAT returns — that stays with your accountant or your accounting software.
